'Catastrophic Fire' Kills Woman In York County, Coroner Says

A 92-year-old woman died at the scene of a "catastrophic fire" on Monday, February 6, 2023, authorities say.

The fire broke out at the home in the 300 block of Thorley Road, Fairview Township sometime before 1:30 a.m., according to multiple releases authorities issued later that morning. 

The 92-year-old homeowner was found dead inside the home and was officially pronounced deceased at 2:40 a.m. by Deputy Coroner Michele Kirchner, according to the York County coroner's office. 

The Pennsylvania state police fire marshal was called to the scene at 1:49 a.m. and the home was declared a "total loss," according to a release issued by Trooper James T. Grothey. 

The origin and cause of the fire are still under investigation by the Fairview Township fire department. 

The woman's next of kin have been notified.
